One of soap's most famous battling couples, Dirty Den and Angie, have been pictured together again for the first time since leaving EastEnders 11 years ago. But this time Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson were all smiles - if a little greyer - as they posed to publicise their new TV series The Stretch. In the drama, which will be shown next year, Leslie plays Terry Green, a criminal who keeps his underworld dealings a secret from his long-suffering wife Sam, played by Anita Dobson. After EastEnders, Leslie played another villain in the TV series The Paradise Club and has recently been seen as a game show host alongside Melinda Messenger in C5's energetic Fort Boyard. Anita has made a few screen appearances but has tended to concentrate on theatre. But their partnership in EastEnders is part of soap history. Leslie's moody, menacing presence perfectly complemented Anita's bubbly but fiery nature. More than 30 million people watched Dirty Den demand a divorce from Angie in 1986. Leslie says, "TV companies have been trying to get us together again for years. Now the time is right." Anita added, "It wasn't until I left EastEnders that I realised how much people loved us." |
